We built the tool we kept wishing existed.
NightPicks started with a real problem — one that probably sounds familiar if you share a sofa with someone.
My name is Jay, and like a lot of people, my wife Anisha and I love watching films together. That part is easy. The part that always seemed to take forever was actually agreeing on what to watch.
We'd open Netflix, scroll for 20 minutes, hit a dead end, switch to Prime, scroll again, suggest something the other had already seen, and eventually give up and put on something we'd both half-watched before. Sound familiar?
It became a running joke between us — the part of the evening that was supposed to be relaxing had turned into a negotiation. One night I got frustrated enough to actually build something about it.
The idea was simple: a generator that actually understands the context of a movie night. Not just a random film — a random film filtered by genre, by mood, by where you can actually watch it, by how long you've got. A real recommendation, delivered instantly.
I built the first version in a weekend. Anisha tested it, told me what was missing, and slowly it grew from a rough weekend project into NightPicks — 30+ generators covering every genre, mood, streaming platform, franchise, and TV show we could think of.
